Associate Planner for Land Conservation

The Associate Planner provides land conservation planning services for private landowners, with emphasis on the cultivation, planning, documentation, preparation, and completion of conservation and agricultural easements and fee simple land acquisitions.
1. Assists with planning, preparation and finalization of conservation and agricultural easements and associated exhibits, and the acquisitions of lands in fee.
2. Prepares baseline documentation reports for conservation and agricultural easements and fee-owned lands.
3. Maintains institutional compliance with land trust accreditation standards and practices.
4. Conducts property and resource assessments and government policy research; coordinates and review appraisals, field surveys, legal descriptions, title research, and other consultant activities.
5. Conducts field work for new conservation easement and amendment projects and prepares Baseline Documentation Reports.
6. Interacts with the general public and prospective clients with inquiries and cultivation efforts; prepares project proposals and budgets; coordinates project schedules, maintains active project records, assists with acquisition grants applications, and tracks project expenditures and other information for grant reporting.
7. Works with local, state and federal land conservation and historic preservation program staff to coordinate protection efforts.
8. Maintains contact with real estate professionals, other conservation organizations, local, regional, state and federal governmental agencies (as appropriate) for program development and evaluation purposes.
9. Supervises the work of consultants and other assistants as may be assigned.
10. Works with the Budget Manager, Land Conservation and the Easement Stewardship Program staff, the Conservancy Committee and other Board subcommittees to maintain on-going compliance with national land trust accreditation requirements.
11. Assists other Easement Stewardship Program staff as needed with the administration, monitoring, and enforcement of existing easements and the management of fee-owned properties.
12. Makes presentations to the Conservancy Committee in order to obtain approval of proposed easements.
13. Participates in Conservancy public relations efforts as needed. Contributes to Conservancy publications. Makes presentations to interested groups.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
1. Bachelor’s degree in geography, environmental science, ecology, land planning, organizational studies, or related field.
2. At least 3-5 years experience with planning and stewarding conservation easements, land acquisitions, natural or agricultural resource management, land planning, and/or real estate.
3. Knowledge of planning and stewarding conservation easements, land acquisitions, natural or agricultural resource management, land planning, and/or real estate concepts.
4. Excellent research skills and familiarity with legal documents, historic source material, maps, deeds, covenants, easements, and legal descriptions.
5. Knowledge of local, state, and national land conservation regulations and guidelines.
6. Ability to effectively manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and to work efficiently under pressure.
7. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Positive and energetic attitude. Strong personal initiative and organizational skills required.
8. Ability to perform outdoor field work during all seasons and in varying weather conditions.
9. Willing to devote such time as required to perform assigned functions. Usual work hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 8:30am to 4:30pm. Occasional night meetings and weekend work. Must be able and comfortable working outdoors in rural natural conditions. Frequent travel within Pennsylvania and Delaware and to other places as necessary.
10. Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer programs, including MS Word, Outlook, Access, and Excel. Familiarity with GIS and GPS preferred.
11. Must have a means of transportation to and from work and work assignments.
12. Must be able to lift and carry 20 lbs.
