Land Protection and Easement Manager

D&R Greenway Land Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who is passionate about land preservation. The successful candidate will be detail- oriented with knowledge of natural resources, conservation easements, GIS mapping and land use planning, and will enjoy working in the field with landowners on conservation.



Position provides oversight for scheduling and managing annual easement monitoring and works with landowners to ensure conservation. This position is responsible for maintaining the database of preserved property files and GIS maps and assists with technical support for land transactions.



This full-time position includes in-house work and field work on a regular basis.


Duties include:

• Schedule site visits and monitor easement properties
• Prepare baseline and monitoring reports
• Ensure easement integrity by educating landowners about natural resources and stewardship and work with landowners to resolve any conflicting uses
• Support land preservation transactions by working with surveyors, appraisers, environmental professionals and the preservation team
• Create maps using GIS tools for internal management and for public presentation
• Manage property files including the Landscape property database and map files
• Prepare tax applications for farmland assessment and tax exemption
• Assist with preparation of materials to be included in preserve signage


The Land Protection and Easement Manager will oversee monitoring and management of all conservation easements to ensure compliance and maintain accreditation with the Land Trust Alliance. This position reviews conservation easement language, processes easement permitted use requests, and prepares easement baseline documents. This position maintains preserved land files through the Landscape software property database of preserved properties. This position is responsible for preparing tax-related filings for exemption and farmland assessment. Easements are monitored annually using both remote aerial images and field work to protect conservation values of natural resources, while providing quality public access where appropriate. This position ensures the easement schedule is met and information is input to the database by the stewardship team, and monitors easements directly. Additional duties support the organization’s mission to preserve land and engage the public in learning about and supporting conservation lands.



  • Skilled in identifying natural resources.
  • Ability to work with maps and databases.
  • Experience reading and understanding legal documents such as deeds and easements.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a team and with landowners.
  • Experience with conservation easements and land transaction process.
  • Demonstrable examples of work products: maps, graphic presentations, reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze, research and solve challenges by working cooperatively with team members, landowners and partners.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in natural areas.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental field, preferably with a land trust or conservation organization. 7-10 years of experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, Land Use Planning, or related field.
  • Experience with Landscape or similar land database preferred.
  • Knowledge of land use principals preferred.
  • GIS mapping experience working with ArcMap and ArcPro preferred.
  • Employee must provide their own transportation to sites.
