Municipalities and non-profit organizations undertake a variety of open space improvement intiatives on public lands in southeastern Pennsylvania every year.
PECO is partnering with Natural Lands to once again provide grants to assist in these efforts.
Through the PECO Green Region Open Space Program, PECO is providing eligible applicants with grant awards of up to $10,000 for open space projects. Eligible applicants include municipalities and regional recreational authorities within PECO’s suburban service territory, which includes portions of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and York Counties, as well as incorporated non-profit organizations within the City of Philadelphia.
Project proposals will be reviewed by a committee of county officials, conservation professionals, and PECO representatives. Funding is to be used to cover expenses for projects on public open spaces, including creating an open space plan, trail implementation, enhancing tree cover, conversion to solar and/or LED trail lighting, energy efficient facility upgrades, installation of electric vehicle charging stations, and other efforts to combat climate change. PECO Green Region grant applications are now being accepted at natlands.org/peco.
UPDATE: Please note, they have EXTENDED THE GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR THE 2023 ROUND OF THE PECO GREEN REGION OPEN SPACE PROGRAM. Grant applications are now due by 4:00pm on Thursday November 30, 2023.
Since the inception of the PECO Green Region Program in 2004, more than $2.8 million has been awarded across the region for a wide variety of open space projects. The Green Region Open Space Program is part of PECO’s Path to Clean Initiative, which encompasses a goal to reduce the company’s operations-driven emissions by 50 percent by the year 2030, and net-zero by 2050, in part by supporting customers in reducing their emissions through access to clean and affordable energy solutions.
