The Manada Conservancy recently announced it has protected 185 acres of land on the Kittatinny Ridge in Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County.

The land links the Fort Hunter Park along the Susquehanna River to State Game Lands 211 filling in a critical gap in the Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Landscape.

The land protects habitats for black bears and bobcats and rare species like woodland orchids and the Allegheny woodcut.

The land also safeguards pawpaw trees that are home to the zebra swallowtail butterfly.
