The forestry management team at Michaux State Forest is redesigning the trail system in the southern region of the Michaux (south of Rte 30) with the aim to support high quality recreation opportunities and conservation in Michaux State Forest.

DCNR is seeking public input during this process to create the best sustainable shared-use trail system possible. There are a lot of quality trails and recreational opportunities in this section of Michaux. All forest users are invited to provide input! The survey will be open for a limited time!

Trail Sustainability Assessment for the Southern Region of Michaux State Forest

Principal Investigator’s (PI) Name: Dr. Russell Hedberg             PI’s University Affiliation and Title: Shippensburg University

Purpose of the research/study: The goal of this study is to collaborate with forestry management and trail user groups to develop a sustainable trail network that meets the conservation priorities for Michaux State Forest and the recreational goals of trail users. This survey is an important part of project and are intended to support direct and honest feedback from trail users and to better understand the priorities of communities that use the Southern part of Michaux for recreation activities.

Procedures to be followed: Participant in this study involves completing an online survey about your trail use in the southern region of Michaux State Forest and providing location pins and comments on interactive maps of the region. The survey also asks some basic demographic questions to better understand and serve trail users. All data is anonymous.

Potential benefits to participants: Participants will provide direct input for the trail system update and management plan in the southern Michaux State Forest Region. This feedback will inform infrastructure investments made by DCNR and ensure that trail users continue to have the best outdoor recreation experience on public land.

Voluntary Participation: Participation in this study is voluntary and you can drop out at any time without penalty. You are not required to answer any survey questions that you do not wish to complete.

Participants must be 18 years or older at the time of survey completion.
