North Branch Land Trust, a regional nonprofit dedicated to land conservation and environmental education, has unveiled a new contextual, interpretive sign at its public nature preserve, Hanover Crossings Marsh. The sign was designed inhouse by the organization’s Marketing Manager, Brittany Lynn, and Environmental Education Coordinator, Leah Malarkey, and serves as an engaging educational resource for visitors of all ages.
The project was made possible through grant funding from The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership and additional support from The Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Freshwater marshes are among the most ecologically valuable habitats in Pennsylvania, providing critical flood mitigation, water filtration, and wildlife habitat. The newly installed sign highlights these essential functions, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the marsh’s role in the region’s environmental health.
“Hanover Crossings Marsh is a living classroom,” said Brittany Lynn. “This interpretive sign helps us share the story of why wetlands matter; not just for wildlife, but for the resilience and well‑being of our entire community. We’re grateful to our partners for helping us bring this educational resource to life.”
The sign features visually engaging content that explains the ecological importance of freshwater marshes and the species that depend on them. By placing the sign directly along the marsh’s overlook, North Branch Land Trust aims to enhance visitor experience and foster a deeper connection to local natural resources.
This installation is part of North Branch Land Trust’s ongoing commitment to expanding environmental education opportunities across its public preserves and strengthening community awareness of conservation importance in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
