Pocono Heritage Land Trust is proud to announce its latest acquisition of conserved land in Monroe County: 70 acres in Hamilton Township, named the Pomeroy McMichaels Creek Nature Preserve. Named for the land’s previous owners, as well as the creek that traverses it, this property marks PHLT’s eighth Nature Preserve designated for public use. The natural resources, scenic value, and proximity to other preserved lands make it a valuable addition.
Adjacent to both Quiet Valley Historical Farm and Stroud Township’s Hickory Valley Park, the Pomeroy Preserve is a key acquisition in connecting established green spaces. By conserving this piece of land, a half mile of McMichaels Creek that flows through the property will also be protected.
PHLT’s acquisition of the Pomeroy McMichaels Creek Nature Preserve is a particularly meaningful success for the organization. Don Miller recounts that the first conversation had with the Pomeroy family about conserving this land occurred in 1979. After nearly four decades of perseverance, effort on PHLT’s behalf, and negotiations that spanned generations, the sale was finalized with the heirs of the property, who chose to protect it in perpetuity. PHLT gratefully appreciates the Pomeroy family’s decision to preserve the pristine woodlands, unique ledges, and clean stream that comprises this new preserve.
