Conservation wins in the fall election!

On November 4, voters in three Pennsylvania townships passed referendums to increase their earned income taxes to fund open space protection in their municipalities.

  • A whopping 74% of voters approved the additional taxation for conservation in South Whitehall Twp. (Lehigh Co.).
  • 73% of Upper Frederick Twp. (Montgomery Co.) voters approved their tax to conserve measure.
  • The Williams Twp. (Northampton Co.) referendum succeeded with 62% of the vote–still a blowout result for an election.

The one referendum loss–in Upper Providence Twp., Delaware Co.–probably can be attributed to voters being asked to increase both their earned income and property taxes for open space protection.
