Bird Town Pennsylvania recently named the City of Harrisburg an official “Bird Town.”
The initiative, introduced by Madelyn Good, the Sustainability Coordinator for the Department of Public Works, aims to help the City of Harrisburg protect birds, support native habitats, and encourage eco-friendly practices at the community level.
“This is about more than birds,” said Good. “It is about creating a healthier, more vibrant environment for everyone—residents, pets, and wildlife alike. Bird Town gives us tools to inspire local pride and promote sustainability right where we live, beginning with our own backyards.”
The City pledged to offer workshops, educational events, and hands-on activities designed to connect residents with the local birdlife.
“In Harrisburg, we believe every resident deserves clean air, green spaces, and the joy of birdsong,” said Mayor Wanda R.D. Williams. “Becoming a Bird Town is another step forward in preserving the natural beauty that surrounds us and educating the next generation on why that matters. I am proud to see Harrisburg lead with intention and heart.”
