WeConservePA is sharing this survey and information for our broader audience of trail and cycling enthusiasts. The survey and information included here were distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as part of a larger nationwide and international research study. More info about the study included in the post below. Thanks!
We kindly ask for your help with this research survey about cycling on rural highways. The data that you share will be useful in understanding the drives and constraints on rural cycling for different user types. The results will indicate which variables are more relevant to users to cycle (or not) on rural highways. Based on the results, we will recommend future research on how to improve and/or revise existing Highway Capacity Manual bicycle evaluation and/or Green Book design guidance to accommodate users’ revealed preferences.
The survey includes questions about:
- Your personal characteristics.
- Your cycling experience.
- Choice tasks to select which one of the four hypothetical scenarios would you prefer to cycle at, if any.
- Ranking elements according to how important they are while riding your bike.
If you are a U.S. resident, and 18 or older, we kindly invite you to participate. For this survey, respondents do not require any kind of previous/current experience in bicycle facilities. We would appreciate your participation in this 15-minute survey – your input is important for conducting this research.
This survey is used exclusively for research purposes. This survey has been approved by the University of Florida Institutional Review Board (IRB#: 20220213), which oversees research studies involving human subjects. The record of your survey responses does not contain any identifying information. We can provide you with a summary of the results if you provide your contact information on a separate survey. Your responses will not be attached between surveys, so your contact information will not be associated back to your responses.
This survey is part of the NCHRP Project 08-135 to develop the multimodal quality of service predictive methodologies for rural highway facilities (https://apps.trb.org/cmsfeed/TRBNetProjectDisplay.asp?ProjectID=4747). The NCHRP 08-135 research team is composed of the University of Florida, Montana State University, Kittelson & Associates, and the Technical University of Munich.
Thank you very much for your time. If you have any additional questions about this survey please contact Dr. Ana Moreno ([email protected]), or questions about the overall project, please contact Dr. Scott Washburn ([email protected]).
Because enrollment is mediated by Prolific, which abides by the EU’s data protection rules, we need to provide you with a statement about those protections, see General Data Protection Regulation Addendum.
