2026 Farmland Raptor Project: Recruiting Natural Pest Control to Working Lands

Webinar

Hawk Mountain has been working with watershed restoration groups and other conservation organizations to engage with landowners with riparian restoration in agricultural habitats and regenerative agricultural practices can improve habitat for two declining farmland raptors, American Kestrel and Barn Owl. Primarily partnering with Stroud Water Research Center to identify properties and install nestboxes for both species adjacent to riparian buffer projects. The charismatic raptors work as an excellent landowner engagement tool standing as a keystone species that indicates a healthy ecosystem. In addition, these raptors represent a natural pest control option that promotes plant survival rates and reduces landowner pest management costs. This project is a strong, scalable model designed to operate statewide and beyond by amplifying conservation impacts across the landscape and engaging partners on working lands. Participants will be provided with educational materials, including a blueprint for nestboxes, to help them install additional boxes across the landscape.
