James “Jim” Lang (1957-2024), a longtime board member with over thirty years of organizational involvement with French Creek Valley Conservancy (FCVC), passed away recently. The staff, board, and volunteers of FCVC knew Jim well, and are feeling the weight of his loss.

Following is a statement from FCVC:

“It is with the deepest sadness we share the news of Jim Lang’s passing. Jim was incredibly dedicated to FCVC and the protection of the French Creek watershed. He was interwoven into the fabric of our success, as Board President for 12 years, longtime chair of the Land Protection committee, and so, so much more.

If you ever participated in our French Creek Cleanup, you may not have known Jim, but you probably saw him standing by and smiling at all the people caring for our watershed. Jim was responsible for growing the event from humble beginnings as a few friends on the water into our largest stewardship day of the year.

Generous to the core, he supported our conservation work and many other organizations and projects throughout our community. He will be greatly missed. We will share our plans to honor him at a later date.

An obituary and information for arrangement are found here.”
